My speech at the Adobe “New Creatives” meet up 2014

The Create Now – New Creative Meet Up was an exclusive event for like-minded industry pros and visionaries. Leading artists and designers shared their creative pieces and sources of inspiration, in areas such as graphic design, photography, video and special effects.

The evening featured Luminary sessions led by illustrator and graphic designer Gavin Campbell and designer and artist Chris LaBrooy, who showcased their most aspirational work.

Throughout the evening, guests were entertained and enthralled by portfolio reviews headed by leading creatives. The event also hosted live Creative Jam,where guests experienced a two-hour unique creative battle between some of the best creatives in the UK. The talented designers were given a theme to base their work on and a winner was announced at the end of the evening.

My first digitaltutors.com tutorial is Live!

image

Yes thats right guys, my first online tutorial is now live courtesy of digitaltutors.com. I breakdown how I use my trademark lighting effects to create this image of the basketball player surging through the clouds with power. It’s about 1.30 hours long, which is a nice length, broken up into 3-5 minutes segments. Click on the image above or here to view it now. Thanks to Cheyenne Stansberry at DT

My Cannes Lions 2014 Experience with Microsoft

image

I had a great week in Cannes for the global festival of creativity working for Microsoft. This was by far the best working week away I have had. The weather, scenery and the people were great, not to mention all the free food, drink and giveaways on offer throughout the week. The event was littered with celebrities and CEO’s from the biggest ad & tech companies in the world, including Google, Microsoft, Sony, Adobe to name a few. I managed to catch the seminar with Kanye, Steve Stoute and Ben Horowitz and I also bumped into Dynamo magician while I was hanging about outside the main hall. Working in the blazing sun all day by the beach sipping smoothies and iced coffee was really hard work!! LOL

My role was to create fun themed images from photos taken of the public at the event. Here are some of the images I produced. We used a selection of movie covers, posters, comical animal shots and dance floors. I designed approximately 200 images during the festival, which were posted on the Microsoft Twitter & Facebook feeds. The images were also on rotation on large screens before talks in the main auditorium and the screens on the Microsoft beach stand. A winner was chosen each day, with the lastest Nokia as the prize. The images went viral and provided huge social interaction for the Microsoft stand.

image

Although we didn’t animate the images on this occassion. Here are some examples of how I plan to create animate gifs at future events.

Thanks to the amazing team at Microsoft and BMB agency for all the support (Jake, Jean Pierre, Leena, Joel, Tim, Amy & Caroline). Forgive me If I forgot to mention you, names are not my forte.
